About Collections
This office oversees the collection of fines, fees, and restitution for all Mendocino County Courts
and the Probation Department.

How to Take Care of Your Fine
If you are paying your fine and not appearing in court, or if the Court rules that you owe a fine today, it may be paid either by mail,
by credit card, or in person at any court branch location throughout Mendocino County.
Payment by mail: Write your docket number or account number on your check as well as
on all correspondence. Make checks/money orders payable to Mendocino County Collections at the above address.
Payment at the Ukiah courthouse: See the Collection department in Room G2 on the ground floor,
located across from Jury Services. See Locations for directions to
the other court branches.
Payment at the courthouse can be made in four ways:
1. Pay your fine in full today with cash, check or money order.
2. Pay your fine in full today by credit card:
All credit cards will be accepted. Call 1-800-690-5413 to pay your
citation by credit card. You may call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
You must have your citation, courtesy notice, or case number available to pay by credit card. If you do not have this information, you may contact the Collection department for your total fine due and your citation number.
A convenience fee is charged to the cardholder when paying by credit card. The funds are verified while payment is being made and are electronically deposited to our bank within 48 hours from the transaction date.
For further information regarding credit card payment transactions, convenience fees,
or the Official Payments Corporation you may visit their website at www.officialpayments.com.
3. Monthly payment plan ($35 administration fee added). This plan is more structured. It is a monthly time payment plan that allows you to make a payment each month until the fine is paid in full. A $35.00 administrative fee will be assessed as a collection charge for each case.
4. Perform community service through Mendo-Lake Alternative Service, Inc.
The program is monitored by Mendo-Lake Alternative Service, Inc., located in Room 209 in the Ukiah Courthouse (468-3422). The Court converts your fine to community service at $8.00
per hour. For example, if the fine were $500.00, you would work 63 hours in your local community, scheduled around your work or school hours.
Not all fines and fees may be converted to community service. You must pay an administration fee to Mendo-Lake Alternative Service prior to completion of the work. The fee is based on a sliding scale that will be determined at
your interview and is payable to Mendo-Lake Alternative Service. The fee offsets expenses for running the program. You may not be an employee of, a member of, or a periodic volunteer for the agency for which the work is done. You may not directly or indirectly benefit from your own work.
Do not contact Mendo-Lake Alternative Services unless you have been first been referred by Collections or the Court.

Failure to Appear or Pay
Failure to appear, pay, or complete community service can result in severe consequences.
If you are unable to appear or pay by your due date, fail to report to community service or fail to complete community service, you must report to the Collection department.
Penalties of up to $345.00 may be added to each case.
In Vehicle Code cases, a drivers' license hold, resulting in a suspension, will be placed on your license until the fine is paid in full or work is completed.
In any case, a civil judgment may be entered for the amounts due plus interest and other costs. This may affect your credit record until it is paid in full. Additionally, cases where the defendant is placed on probation, probation may be revoked and bench warrants may be issued for your arrest.
